Ramp Metering
Ramp metering facilitates traffic flow on freeways by regulating the amount of traffic entering the freeway, through the use of control devices (such as traffic signals) on entrance ramps. Traffic signals are commonly linked to metering devices, allowing cars to enter the freeway at a predetermined rate.
Using some of the data from a recent study and information provided by Web sites, you will gain a basic understanding of the uses of ramp meters.

The Global Positioning System
Long ago, the stars, sun, a compass, a watch and sextant were used to determine your position. Now, satellites and electronic equipment can do the job with less work and much greater accuracy. GPS is a navigational system using satellite signals to fix the location of a receiver on or above the earth's surface.
