Technology Analysis for Mileage Based User Fee System

Principal Investigator:

Max Donath, Professor, Mechanical Engineering

Co-Investigators:

  • Alec Gorjestani, , Mechanical Engineering
  • Craig Shankwitz, Director, Intelligent Vehicles Lab, Mechanical Engineering

Project Summary:

This research project responds to a request by Mn/DOT for support in developing an RFP for a Mileage Base User Fee (MBUF) program. The Intelligent Vehicles Lab is a leader in both GPS- and transponder-based in-vehicle position sensing technologies. As a technology resource, the IV Lab provided support for RFP Preparation, Proposal Evaluation and Development of Evaluation Goals. Following the release of the RFP, the IV Lab formulated a system evaluation plan as an effort to "fast track" the project, in order to enable a concurrent start to both the test and the formal evaluation.
