Development of a New Tracking System based on CMOS Vision Processor Hardware: Phase II: Development and Demonstration of the Prototype Tracking System- FY10 NATSRL

Principal Investigator:

Hua Tang, Assistant Professor, UMD-Electrical & Computer Eng

Project Summary:

Intelligent transportation systems depend on being able to track vehicle operations and collect accurate traffic data. The main objective of this project, which is in its second phase, is to improve the accuracy and real-time operation of the vehicle-tracking process by constructing a new, more accurate vehicle-tracking system based on a new algorithm. Researchers have already verified the new algorithm using extensive simulation. This second phase will focus on implementation of the new algorithm into customized hardware, the goal being to construct the hardware itself and test it in the field. Tests of the new system will focus on intersections, ramps to highways, and roundabouts, where data collection is most needed.
