Bus 2.0 research recognized with transit award

The Minnesota Public Transit Association awarded the ITS Institute’s Intelligent Vehicles (IV) Lab director Craig Shankwitz and Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) transit planning manager Mike Abegg with its Management Innovation Award on September 13 for their work on the Bus 2.0 driver-assistive system. The research is part of a $133.3 million federally funded state project to improve traffic flow on I-35W between downtown Minneapolis and the southern suburbs.

ITS-related departments perform well in NRC review

In arguably one of the most comprehensive reviews of doctoral programs in history, the University of Minnesota performed well, university officials said Sept. 28. Sixty-nine of the university’s more than 100 doctoral programs were ranked in the National Research Council assessment, which provides universities across the country with a range of quantitative data so they can improve graduate education. Scoring especially well were the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics, all home to many ITS Institute-supported faculty and student researchers.

TechPlan Roundtable research sparks discussion, insights

Transportation experts, scholars, and industry professionals from Minnesota and across the country gathered July 9 in Minneapolis for roundtable discussions of a number of TechPlan projects. TechPlan is a federally funded research program partnering the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Institute with the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs to investigate how new technology can be used to solve transportation planning and infrastructure challenges.

ITS Annual Report 2010

The ITS Institute has published its 2009–2010 Annual Report, which covers its research, education, and technology transfer activities of the past fiscal year as well as describes its management and financial structure. The previous three Institute annual reports received design awards from Graphic Design USA.
