Student of the Year

2010 Recipient: Saif Eddin Jabari

Saif Eddin Jabari, a graduate student enrolled in the University of Minnesota’s civil engineering Ph.D. program, received the ITS Institute’s 2010 Outstanding Student of the Year Award.

Before pursuing his graduate degree in transportation engineering, Jabari worked as a highway designer and traffic engineer in Amman, Jordan. His academic interests include stochastic modeling, dynamic modeling and optimal control, traffic flow theory, and network flows.  More specifically, Jabari’s doctoral work concentrates on the development of mathematical models for purposes of estimation and prediction of traffic conditions along freeways and signalized arterials. He has also been involved in research related to traffic simulation and transportation network modeling.

Assistant Professor Henry Liu, Jabari’s advisor, called Jabari an “outstanding” graduate student—“clearly one of the best our department will ever produce.”

Not only has Jabari maintained a 4.0 grade point average in his graduate studies, but his work also received the University’s “Best Master’s Thesis in Civil Engineering” award.
