Each year, the Institute selects one graduate student for the Outstanding Student of the Year Award, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA).
The student selected receives a $2,000 award from the ITS Institute and is presented with a certificate from high ranking USDOT officials at a ceremony held in conjunction with the TRB Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., each January. The Institute also reimburses the student (up to $2,000) for his/her travel to the ceremony and TRB Annual Meeting.
Selection is based on accomplishment in three areas: technical merit and research, academic performance, and professionalism and leadership (e.g., presentations, student professional activities).
Applications will be available online in October.
As a part of its effort to support students in transportation, the Institute will provide funding for selected graduate students to attend the national Transportation Research Board (TRB) annual meeting in Washington, DC held in January of each year.
Students selected will each receive up to $1,000 for conference expenses, including travel. Upon completion of the conference, students are required to submit brief summaries of sessions they attended.
Faculty will nominate students based upon the following criteria: transportation-related degrees/course work and internships completed, transportation research conducted, and transportation-related papers presented and/or published.
Applications will be made available in October.
The ITS Institute offers a limited number of graduate student travel stipends, up to $1,000, for travel to ITS-related conferences (ITS America, ITS Minnesota Annual Meeting, IEEE, etc.).
Winners will be selected based on ITS-related degrees and coursework, ITS research conducted, ITS-related papers presented and/or published, and presentations (if any) to be made at the conference. Consideration for funding will be given first to those qualified who have not received a travel award in previous academic years. Additional consideration will be given to those presenting papers at conferences. Fall awards are posted in October, spring awards in February.
ITS Minnesota offers annual scholarship awards for undergraduate- and graduate-level student papers, projects, or research in conjunction with the organization's annual information exchange event.
Each year the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) presents the following student awards: the Milton Pikarsky Award, the C.V. Wooten Award, and the Neville A. Parker Award
